Oil Pulling * Step By Step
Oil Pulling ~ How to and Why
Oil pulling removes oil soluble toxins from the mouth and body. The tongue is mapped by organ-locations. Oil pulling is a massage for the mouth, it soothes and stimulates the key meridians where taste meets organ, also massages the inner skin and lining of the mouth, palate and tongue become warm and supple and the lubrication prevents dryness. Depending on the oil used will removed oil soluble toxins from the mouth and nourish the gums and teeth. It will help with tmj, lock jaw and receding gums.
You may use: Sesame oil or coconut oil.
Coconut oil is used for inflammation, fungal infections and soothing the gums.
Sesame oil is used to nourish the teeth and gums and is high in calcium.
Step One - First thing in the morning or in the evening on an empty stomach and before drinking any liquids (including water), brush your teeth and then floss. Rinse your mouth with a cup of warm water. Then take a tablespoon and place one drop of essential oil either peppermint or fennel onto the spoon. Then pour your oil pulling oil onto the spoon and then place spoon in mouth.
Step Two - Swish the oil around in your mouth without swallowing it. Move it around in your mouth and through your teeth, as if it was mouthwash (don’t tilt your head back to gargle though). You’ll find that the oil will start to get watery as your saliva mixes with it. Keep swishing. If your jaw muscles get sore while swishing, you’re putting too much into it. Relax your jaw muscles and use your tongue to help move the liquid around the inside of your mouth. When you do this correctly, you’ll feel very comfortable. Pretty soon, it will become second nature.
Step Three - You may proceed to do oil pulling for 5-20 minutes. You may notice the oil/saliva mixture in your mouth has become thicker. This is quite normal, since it is pulling out toxins from your body. Don’t be alarmed if it looks yellowish–this is also normal.
Step Four - Spit oil into the toilet, rinse out your mouth with warm water. Gargle warm water, swish and spit a few times.
